Do you feel confident driving on motorways, joining them from slip-roads and lane-changing? Are you happy driving at speeds of up to 70mph (where and when it’s appropriate), or does it scare you? Do you understand the signs, road markings, coloured studs and overhead lit-up gantry signs, especially on the new ‘Smart’ Motorways? Do you worry about being in the wrong lane and missing your exit? Does following a satnav make these things better or worse? When it’s dark and there’s no streetlights does the motorway feel more intimidating, and how does it feel when you’re surrounded by lorries? Perhaps a motorway driving Lesson or two might help?
Many people from learners to experienced drivers are not used to motorways, have never driven on them or just avoid them. It may surprise you to hear that motorways are in fact our safest roads as only 5% of all road accidents happen on them (7% of all road accidents happen in car parks!). I can can help you to get used to motorways and feel comfortable and confident on them.
Get better at planning. Not just route planning, you’ll probably follow a satnav or Waze if you don’t know the way or are trying to avoid the traffic. I mean planning within your driving, especially when you need to get into a different lane to take your exit, or avoid an exit you don’t want. Let’s refine these skills and particularly improve when you are joining the motorway, looking for, spotting and planning your arrival into a gap between vehicles that you hope to use and adjusting your speed on the slip-road to line up with it. How many sessions you’ll need will depend on your level of skill right now and how fast you pick up new ways of doing things.
Motorway driving lessons can help you with any and all aspects of motorway driving, focusing particularly on the aspects you feel you’d like to target.
