Parents! If you add a young person to your car insurance policy, be aware of fronting. This is when someone is declared as the main driver on a policy (i.e. you) but someone else (i.e. the young person) is the main driver and will be driving the car more. This is illegal and considered to be car insurance fraud.
Police, with help from the Insurance Fraud Bureau (IFB) and insurers, catch fronting by investigating inconsistencies following a claim, using motor databases, witness statements, CCTV footage, and road charging records to confirm who was the main driver. If found guilty of fronting, individuals face insurance claim refusal, policy cancellation, criminal prosecution for fraud, fines, driving bans, and potential seizure and crushing of their car, along with significant difficulty securing future insurance.
