The Driving & Vehicles Standards Agency announced that learners will be able to head out on to UK motorways from June 4th 2018 onwards, but only if they are with a fully qualified approved driving instructor (ADI) in a car fitted with dual controls.
The DVSA says that motorway driving is strictly voluntary and will not be included in the driving test. It will be up to instructors to decide if they feel their students are ready.
(Trainee motorcyclists on provisional licences still won’t be allowed on motorways after the new law is introduced)
