Your tyres are the only contact your car has with the road.
A new tyre has 8mm of tread.
When it has 3mm of tread left stopping distance in the wet is increased by 20%.
When it has 2mm of tread left stopping distance in the wet is increased by 40%.
Although 1.6mm is the legal minimum, it’s safer to replace your tyres before the tread gets below 3mm.
You can get 3 points and a fine for EACH tyre with tread below the legal limit!
Tyre Pressures

Maintaining the correct tyre pressure is crucial because it ensures safety, as proper pressure is essential for optimal grip, handling, and braking; it improves fuel economy by reducing rolling resistance; and it extends tyre life by promoting even wear and preventing damage from under- or over-inflation. Tyres naturally lose air, so checking pressure at least monthly and before long trips is a necessary maintenance task.
